🕊 Designed to build discipline, not pressure

Each day builds on the last…creating rhythm, not overload.

“Moreover, it is required of stewards that one be found faithful.”

— 1 Corinthians 4:2

This fast is not about perfection. It’s about faithfulness!

Choosing the Fast That Fits Your Season

As you begin the Stewardship Fast, you'll notice there isn't just one "right" way to fast. There are two primary fasting options, along with a modified fast for those with health considerations.

Each option serves the same purpose:

  • Drawing closer to God

  • Strengthening discipline and self-control

  • Resetting priorities (including finances, habits, and stewardship)

The goal is not intensity. The goal is faithfulness.

Choose the fast that is wise for your body and honest for your season, not one driven by pressure or pride.

  • Following Jesus' Example in the Wilderness

A water fast is a season of total dependence on God, modeled after Jesus' time in the wilderness. Before Jesus began His public ministry, He withdrew from comfort, food, and distraction to fully submit Himself to the Father.

""Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness... After fasting forty days and forty nights, He was hungry.""

    — Matthew 4:1-2

    What this looks like:

    • Water only (plain water)

    • Focused prayer and Scripture

    • Extended moments of quiet and reflection

    • No solid foods

    • No sweetened drinks, juices, or supplements (unless medically required)

This fast mirrors Jesus' decision to deny the flesh so the Spirit could lead.

""Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.""

    — Matthew 4:4

    Why some choose this fast:

    • It cultivates deep spiritual discipline

    • It removes distractions quickly

    • It sharpens spiritual sensitivity

    • It trains reliance on God rather than comfort

Jesus' wilderness fast reminds us that fasting is not about strength, it's about submission.

""My food," said Jesus, "is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to finish His work.""

    — John 4:34

  • The Daniel Fast is based on Daniel 1, where Daniel chose discipline over indulgence in order to honor God.

""Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink.""

    — Daniel 1:12

This is not a diet — it's a consecration. It removes excess, comfort foods, and indulgence so spiritual clarity can increase.

    What you CAN eat:

    • Vegetables (fresh, frozen, or steamed)

    • Fruits

    • Whole grains (brown rice, quinoa, oats)

    • Legumes (beans, lentils)

    • Nuts and seeds

    • Water (primary beverage)

    What you should AVOID:

    • Meat and animal products

    • Dairy

    • Sugar and sweeteners

    • Processed or fried foods

    • Refined flour breads

    • Caffeine (recommended to reduce)

    • Alcohol

Daniel's fast was about obedience, discipline, and faithfulness — not deprivation.

""At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food.""

    — Daniel 1:15

  • If health, medication, or physical limitations prevent you from doing a water fast or full Daniel Fast, you are not disqualified.

    God honors obedience, not extremism.

    ""I desire mercy, not sacrifice.""

    — Hosea 6:6

    A Modified Fast may include:

    • Fasting from one daily meal

    • Eliminating sugar, junk food, or snacking

    • Removing caffeine or alcohol

    • Setting a daily eating cutoff time (for example: no food after 6pm)

    • Combining food fasting with a media fast (social media, TV, entertainment)

The heart of fasting is not the method, it's the surrender.

""Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.""

    — Matthew 4:4

    Wisdom and counsel are encouraged.

""Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.""

    — Proverbs 20:18

If you have health concerns, consult a medical professional before beginning any fast.
